Upgrades can increase the power of a piece of gear and at times even add additional features. The value of these upgrade is determined by the gear's tiers, their requirements and how many random augmentations are made available.

For example, the elite racial shield Razortail is usually upgraded to improve its lightning absorb ability in PvP or to add additional defenses on missile based designs in PvM. This makes it more exchangeable than the un-upgraded version.

Reroll Tokens

Reroll tokens are a way to reroll an item you have acquired, such as armor, weapon or rings. The item is replaced with another item of the same type however with different bonuses. When you choose an upgrade component to be inserted into an item the game will show an in-game window that lists the requirements required for that item. These include the item type (either weapon or armor) the tier of that item, the upgrade Token required, as well as the amount of progress needed to complete the upgrade item.
