Origins
In the prehistoric era the ancestors of modern Koreans were capable of survival through hunting and gathering wild food. Around 10,000 years ago they began to cultivate millet and beans as well as other crops. They also raised livestock and also made furs. Baekje is the most powerful of these states, was diminished by the collapse of Goguryeo (676 CE) leaving only its southern regions in Manchuria, and its western region around Hwanghae Bay. Eastern Buyeo as well as the Gaya confederacy, flourished for a time.
The Unified Silla Kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms began to collaborate to expand their territories. In the final phase, Silla, with significant Chinese aid, conquered the other states and unified the peninsula in 935 CE.
As Korea enters the post-crisis era the development paradigm of the country appears to be changing. People who are shocked by the huge cost of the old system are urging an extensive program of liberalization of capital, labor, and product markets. On the other hand, supporters of the old system want to keep it in place by leveraging nationalist sentiments and inflating fears about job losses.
Policy and academic analysts are sharply divided on the extent to which these two trends are driving Koreas development towards a new model of economic governance. This article analyzes the five phases of Korea's development in terms of its political development including democratically illiberal democracies (1945-60) democratic autoritarianism (1961-72) authoritarian exceptionalism (1972-1877) democratic paternalism (2001-2002) and participatory democracy (2002). This article also identifies key factors that appear to be shaping these processes.
Creationism in Korea
In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. Creationists have had success in promoting their views to this population. A survey conducted in 2009 revealed that nearly a third of respondents did not believe in evolution. Of those, 41% claimed that there was insufficient scientific evidence to support evolution 39% of respondents said that the theory contradicted their religion; and 17% said it was difficult to understand. This level of disbelief is comparable to that of the United States, where a similar percentage of people do not accept that humans evolved from less advanced species of life.
In the past, most of the anti-evolution movement in Korea was focused on educating college students and in bringing them to Christ. It also translated several films and slides from ICR and several books on creationism that were already in print outside of Korea. KACR members taught throughout the country in churches and universities.
A KACR success was observed at the KAIST University in Seoul. There, there were enough students fascinated by the concept of creationism that they raised the money and support to construct an on-campus museum showing creationist models of fossils and other exhibits.
In addition to its public activities, KACR publishes a bimonthly news magazine called CREATION which covers topics in the field of creation science, and it has sponsored a series of lectures by ICR staff. It has also established branches in local offices that host talks and seminars to schoolchildren and other community groups.
The evolution of South Korea

He was the ruler of a large portion of the present-day Jeolla province as well as Chungcheong. Later, he relocated the capital to Wansanju. He was an adversary to Goguryeo.
However, his rule was short-lived. After his defeat, Gungye was replaced by a powerful local leader Wang Geon, who united Goryeo with Baekje and Silla in 935. Later Baekje was peacefully incorporated into Goryeo as an heir state. In addition, Wang Geon introduced fundamental reforms and strengthened a centralized ruling system. This marked the end of the Three Kingdoms period. From that point the Korean peninsula was under the control of the Goryeo Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms Period, Goguryeo Baekje Silla slowly grew into powerful states on the peninsula, and in Manchuria.
