1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or [Redirect Only] mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that vacuum and mop that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create an automatic vacuum and mop spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
